Former Health Minister Tritan Shehu stated that the WHO guidelines require an aggressive strategy against COVID-19, starting with horizontal testing.
In a Facebook post, Shehu points out that identifying each case remains an enormous task, further creating opportunities for treatment, social and economic isolation.
"According to WHO guidelines, an aggressive, active and direct strategy against the virus is needed, starting with horizontal testing. Identifying each case remains a major task, which further creates opportunities for treatment, social and economic isolation and recovery. Concentrating all the testing on Tirana, definitely cannot cope with this necessity. Colleagues, you can be the "pioneers" of horizontal testing; for this you can become the initiator of the introduction of other simple diagnostic methods, with little effort and initial investment. First of all, I am talking about immunochromatographic methods, which are widely talked about today, many countries are applying them massively successfully and at very low cost, others are studying them rapidly, even to determine the further immunization of the population. Clearly, this method also cannot achieve the objectives of a horizontal search, if "testing kits" will remain only a monopoly of Tirana," Shehu said.
